After a rewarding life of 74 years, Almighty God called from labor to reward, the dear soul of Dorothy L. Boyd on January 4, 2017, at Legend Nursing Home in Euless, Texas. She was born on October 7, 1942 in Murfreesboro, TN to the late Randall Carney, Sr. and Carrie Smith Carney.
She was preceded in death by four siblings: Vernal E. Smith, James Robert Smith, Randall Carney, Jr. and Ruby V. Rucker.
Dorothy made a commitment to the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age; she was baptized at State Street Church of Christ, which later became Bradyville Road Church of Christ.
She attended Rutherford County public schools, graduating from Holloway High School in 1960. She attended Tennessee State University, formerly known as A&I State College. In 1976, she was rewarded with a Licensed Practical Nursing degree from the Board of Tennessee. Her last place of employment was at the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System-Alvin C. York.
Dorothy was united in holy matrimony to Harold L. Boyd on November 19, 1963.
Dorothy leaves to mourn her passing, a son, Tony D. Boyd; two daughters; Daphney and LaLorie (Stanley) Pressley; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren; two brothers: Elbert (Lottie) Carney and Gerry (Susie) Carney; four sisters: Ida (George) Clark, Margaret (Ozell) Edwards of Hazelcrest, Illinois, Kathleen Turner and Barbara (Bruce) Andrews; two sisters-in-law: Martha Smith and Fannie Cason Carney; one brother-in-law, Charles Rucker; one aunt, Callie McClain, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation Saturday, January 14, 2017 from 12-1pm at Bradyville Road Church of Christ with funeral to follow at 1pm. Burial at Evergreen Cemetery.
