On Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN, Jimmy Wayne Davis transitioned to his eternal home with his Heavenly Father. Hearing the Master’s call, he quietly slipped away in comfort and peace, assured that he will find joy and sweet rest.
The youngest of five children, Jimmy Wayne Davis was born July 15, 1940 to the late Donnell and Lena (Mom Bo) Mai King Davis in Murfreesboro, TN. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen Davis and his siblings, Lillian, Willie (Brut), Josie Mai, and Tommy (Sonny). Jimmy was also raised in a family with Christian beliefs and strong family values along with his two devoted nephews Billie Lee Davis and Thomas Davis.
Captain Jimmy Davis joined the ranks of the Murfreesboro City Police Department on June 15, 1968 as a patrolman. Throughout his tenure, he took advantage of multiple professional development opportunities to advance his career. He later served dutifully as Detective, Detective Sergeant, and Lieutenant of Records. He was promoted to the ranks of Captain of Records until his retirement on April 10, 2006. He also received six Perfect Attendance awards during his 38 years of service.
Jimmy Davis leaves to cherish his memory his faithful and devoted son, Jabari (Sarah) Davis; son Felix (Stella) Randolph, Jr.; devoted nephews, Billie Lee (Margaret) Davis and Thomas (Diane) Davis; niece, Gloria (Raymond) Bonner; sisters-in-law, Clara Meels, Jane Davis, and Gracie Turner; brother-in-law, George (Billie) Haynes, Jr.; grandchildren, Kelsey Randolph, Cynthia (Rashawn) Ray, Allison Randolph, and Bryant Wesley Randolph; great grandchildren, Eric Ryan, Randolph, Rashawn Ray, Jr., and Jeremiah Ray; a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, friends, a loving church family, and the City of Murfreesboro Police Department.
Mr. Davis will lie in state at Rucker Memorial Chapel from 12 noon to 7 pm with the Murfreesboro Police Department Honor Guard and Omega Service (ALPHA PHI ALPHA) to be held at 5 pm on Friday, May 29, 2015. Visitation with the family will be Saturday, May 30, 2015 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon with funeral to follow at 12 noon at Cherry Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. James Ward will Officiate and Rev. James McCarroll will be the Eulogist. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Murfreesboro, TN.
